Although not officially published as an update to the Critical Skills List, the Minister of Higher Education and Training has published a Government Notice called The National List of Occupations in High Demand: 2018 suggesting an expansion to the list of professions allowing non-South Africans them to live and work in South Africa under a Critical Skills Visa.

Contrary to what a lot of people might assume, a person applying for a critical skills visa needs to submit their application and original passport in person at a consulate in their home country, commonly referred to as RSA mission abroad. The process will take 4-6 weeks depending on the country and city where the application is submitted.

In June 2014, the Critical Skills list was published by the Gazette; it is in a PDF format and available on Department of Home Affairs website. I find the list a bit difficult to navigate, so I took the liberty to simplify it so it is easy to do searches.
