Recognized Professional Bodies of South Africa

When you’re applying for a temporary visa for South Africa, you’ll notice that a requirement for almost any visa will be to have a certificate of registration from a professional body that can vouch for the industry you are in.

The degree of difficulty to get a letter of approval from a professional body will vary. Some will take long, some will be tedious, some will have a fee, and some will be a combination of these. As soon as you know you need letter of approval from a professional body, we would advise that you apply immediately.

The list of professional bodies that is deemed acceptable by Home Affairs is in a downloadable excel document located on their site. It might not be easy to navigate, so we would recommend the following:

1. Select all the content of the document

2. Do a search for your industry (e.g. engineering, accounting, science)

3. Email all those professional bodies related to your field and follow-up with phone calls weekly.

Remember, all you need from a professional body is a membership letter or a recommendation, and it's usually easier and faster to get a membership letter.
