Are you an Engineer wanting to apply for a Critical Skills Visa for South Africa?

Are you an Engineer wanting to apply for a Critical Skills Visa for South Africa? Then the ECSA is the Professional Body for you!

The Engineering Council of South Africa, or ECSA, is the primary professional body/council for engineers in South Africa. Foreign national engineers, for example Mechanical Engineers, Civil Engineers, or Electrical Engineers who are interested in applying for a Critical Skills visa must adhere to a number of requirements, one of the key requirements being membership to the ECSA.

The process of applying for ECSA is an extremely lengthy one, which we have simplified into 2-steps:

1.     The ECSA will perform a background check on the candidate; this will consist of verification of previous employers as well as a thorough evaluation of the candidate’s education background. The ECSA will provide you with a designation, for example “Civil Engineer”. The background check and designation can take up to six months.

2.     The ECSA application will be reviewed by a Senior Engineer, holding a Doctorate, who is part of the ECSA who will contact the candidate directly to set up an interview. This process can take another six months.

We recommend starting the application to ECSA as early on as possible in order to avoid delays in obtaining a critical skills visa.

It is important to note that the SAICHE (South African Institution of Chemical Engineers) is not a statutory body and neither is it recognized by SAQA.

If you are a non-South African Engineer interested in applying for a Critical Skills Visa for South Africa, SA Visa Experts can assist with the Critical Skills Visa application, the ECSA membership, or both.
